Eswaramoorthy Satheeskumar of Tirupur´s Starwin Screen Printers, reveals his love for ROQ machines.

From a family business that started in agriculture, was in the 90s due to the lack of water, it led them to look for a new business. In 1994 that his father starts out in the sreen printing business.

Today, the company produces over 25.000 prints every day, and an average of 6.000.000 pieces a month.

Starwin has 5 ROQ screen printing machines. Three o these are 12 colours machines, and one each of 14 and 16 colours. It also has several electric dryers and flash cure machines.

This love for ROQ machines, started in 2010 in a visit to a international exhibition.

“Besides high quality of output I loved the user interface.. ROQ machine is really user friendly, In areas where you have a dearth of qualified technicians, this becomes a key deciding factor.
The other reason has been the excellent customer service. A company which understand the value of customer always invests in customer after sales service…” says Eswaramoorthy Satheeskumar.

The following testimony was made by Joel Taylor

Joel is from PSI Screen Printing in Australia. Joel posted this originally in Facebook. We read it and loved it. Joel granted us permission to share it with the world and here we are.

Enjoy:

Hey guys…I just thought I’d share our ROQ story from down here in Australia. (Turned out to be longer than I thought) smile emoticon

So in Jan 2013 I packed my bags and headed off to ISS Long Beach to buy a new press.

During the show I was pretty much settled on my choice (a nice royal blue press) and was chatting with the Shur-Loc guys at their booth when I heard an English accent from behind ask me where I was from.

Once I explained who I was and why I was there he asked me if I had checked out the S.Roque machine at the Ryonet booth. I said no and Larry shook his head.

He promptly whisked me off to have a look. As we walked he explained that he had used most of the big name presses in his big shop in Toronto and these S.Roque machines were the best he’d ever seen.

I was a little dubious.

Whilst I was a Ryonet customer, (thats right…shipping supplies halfway across the world) I didn’t take them seriously as a professional high end press. I hadn’t heard of the brand and they were bright green…just a toy machine I thought.

We arrived at the booth and Larry introduced me to João. He showed me the ECO and I was really impressed with the machine and realised they weren’t just toys after all.

So now I was torn…I had chosen a company that had local dealers and support and a track record in this country…but I was really impressed with this S.Roque company albeit the press would be on the other side of the world with no dealer, no local support and almost completely opposite business hours.

So I headed home more confused than when I arrived.

Now, as a company, it is not part of our culture to just go with the safest easiest option. We don’t do it with our marketing and we don’t do it with the type of jobs we agree to take on, so why should we do it with the largest investment our business has ever made…Right?

So I bit the bullet and decided to get the ROQ press.

Job done…get finance approved, place the order, manufacture, shipping and then installation 10-14 weeks later…yeah?….Ummm….NOPE!!!

This was March 2013. I didn’t take delivery of my press and tunnel until September 2015.

The major hurdle was getting finance sorted. It turns out that getting finance approved, for equipment that hasn’t yet been made, on the other side of the world, is a little difficult.

So two and a half years later our press arrived. Installation time lapse here –https://www.facebook.com/psiscreenprinting/videos/1156060087742517/

So now the nail biting starts. Do the theoretical efficiencies touted during the sales process really manifest during standard day to day operation?…or was this exercise a waste of 2.5 years of my life and a $200K flop?

Well six months down the track here are the numbers we have tracked…

We have been able to streamline our team and are saving $74,265.56 in production wages this year.

We used to run 2 x 20+ year old electric tunnels and utilities were $24,000 a year. Since installing the new press and natural gas tunnel that has decreased by $11,000 a year.

We used to only run about 30% of our work on the automatic press and ran 2 manual presses full time. We now do 80% of our work on the ROQ with no change in the pcs per order which averages out to 74 pcs.

We are only currently running the press with 1 operator so conservatively probably only running at 70% capacity, plus the manual press only operating at 20% capacity. This results in a far less stressful environment but also heaps of room to increase “contract” work with no increase in wages.

Our repairs and maintenance costs on our old equipment were $16,584 last year and to date we haven’t spent a cent on the new equipment.

Add all those numbers up!

Safe to say we are VERY happy ROQ owners, and are now reaping the massive rewards of taking a risk and doing business outside the box.

I know I’m preaching to the choir here…but thought I’d share anyway.

Talk soon!!

Thank you Joel!

What attracted you to ROQ in the first place and what made up your mind to purchase a Green Machine?

I knew Liam and decided I would like to buy from someone I trusted!

Which machine did you decide on and why?

A ROQprint YOU 10 colors, 12 stations. It was the one that suited the kind of work we do.

When you first got your new machine, what was the first thing you fell in love with?

I liked the fact that it has run non stop 10 hours a day from the moment it arrived, just like Vitor said!

How has ROQ changed your business or life?

It has speeded up multi colour printing for us.

Can you quantify your ROQ purchase in terms of money or time it has saved you or gained you?

It is making some larger run job, twice as fast, due to no extra rotations needed like we had to do on the previous smaller machines.

If someone asked you about buying a ROQ, what advice would you give them?

The advice I already give them, very reliable and does what it say it will do!

What attracted you to ROQ in the first place and what made up your mind to purchase a Green Machine?

I was at ISS Long Beach to place an order for a new press. I ran into Larry from Canada and he told me about his business and how he was switching out his existing presses for ROQ machines. He introduced me to João and he showed me the machine and the PRU system. I was very impressed with the simplicity and efficiency of the press. We know we are one of the best at what we do so we wanted to choose a press from a company that are also that. We now own the best, most efficient press in the country!

Which machine did you decide on and why?

I decided on the ECO XL. Initially we were going to purchase the YOU XL but after considering the efficiency of the ECO we made the decision to spend a little more for the increase in efficiency of the machine. The print size was also a determining factor. We want the ability to produce any size job from small pocket prints up to beach towels and all over t-shirt prints. We also chose the ROQ Tunnel T4515G primarily because of the cost savings in running gas over electricity and also because the increased curing performance of the air forced gas for waterbased and discharge printing.

When you first got your new machine, what was the first thing you fell in love with?

We never have to manually spin the platens again.

Temperature probe on the flashes.

Ability to set multiple jobs up at a time.

How has ROQ changed your business or life?

The ECO press is so much more efficient and simple than our previous press…unbelievably so. It has given us the confidence to run lower quantities and produce work that we would not have before…more efficiently that ever before.

If someone asked you about buying a ROQ, what advice would you give them?

Do it!

For over 35 years, Tayco has been providing Colorado with their screen printing needs. In 2012, while contemplating purchasing a larger facility, they decided it was time to upgrade one of their automatics at the same time. The result was the purchase of the first ROQ Press that was brought over from Portugal for Ryonet®.

What attracted you to ROQ in the first place and what made up your mind to purchase a Green Machine?

When we were ready to upgrade a press for our upcoming move, we heard about this “green machine” from Europe that we had to check out at SGIA. We went to Las Vegas, did our due diligence, and were extremely impressed with the engineering of the machine, and, it was nice to finally have a choice other than just another blue machine.

Which machine did you decide on and why?

Our original plan was to replace our eight color Gauntlett, so we purchased the YOU eight color, ten pallet. As it turned out, we replaced our ten color Challenger simply due to how things worked out with our move. So after putting out around 70,000 units on the press in about eight months, we sold the eight color ROQ and upgraded to a twelve pallet XL machine last October. We already have 45,000 prints off that machine in three months.

When you first got your new machine, what was the first thing you fell in love with?

Smooth! Quiet and Simple! They don’t even bolt these machines to the floor, they don’t need to be. It doesn’t hurt that they are such a pretty machine either!

Can you quantify your ROQ purchase in terms of money or time it has saved you or gained you?

We could talk about throughput, ease of use etc, but one simple thing is purely the print stroke. The print stroke on these, due to their engineering is so much larger than a comparable configuration from M&R®. Having that stroke is a huge advantage.

If someone asked you about buying a ROQ, what advice would you give them?

I have already been asked that question by a few other printers. And three of them already have ROQ’s! The machines speak for themselves, just look at two identical prints, one done on the ROQ, and one on another press. The product shows the difference every time!

We started January 21, 2011. We printed everything on a Riley Hopkins® four station, six color press (which we love). We at FUG were receiving orders for 100-500 for local colleges and they usually gave us a five day notice and wanted to know if it was possible to get it done. We never said no, but we realized that the other (smaller jobs) were piling up while we focused on that one job. Once the larger job was completed we were working over and rushing to get the small jobs out of the way! We looked at the cost of labor and extra hours compared to the cost of an automatic and decided that if we wanted to continue to take on large rush jobs, we would need to have a more efficient method of getting it done.

What attracted you to ROQ in the first place and what made up your mind to purchase a Green Machine?

When we started looking for an automatic we honestly started on YouTube. We watched machines in action and listened to what others liked and dislike. The problem with the ROQ is that every video was in another language because it had not yet made its big push in the states yet. But just watching the machine in action, hearing the low sound levels and honestly the overall look of what we call the Big Green Printing machine!

Which machine did you decide on and why?

We went with the ROQ because it was the perfect machine for us to grow into that next step with. We looked at what kind of jobs we were taking on which were mostly one to three colors and figured it would be perfect to at least have one to three jobs all ready to go the day before and when we arrive in the morning one final test print and away we go. We were also looking to move into a new building and our goal was to have the machine in plain view of our customers and it was the perfect size, look and sound we wanted in that environment.

When you first got your new machine, what was the first thing you fell in love with?

The simplicity of the operation! We have the PRU registration system and when you add that in with the simple steps on the control panel needed to get going it was a big weight off of our back. The look too! It was great to know that not only do we have an automatic is the shop that is easy to use, quiet and productive, but it also had the look for marketing what we do!

How has ROQ changed your business or life?

We are able to take on the larger jobs and get them done in normal business hours without working everyone to death. Being a new company we were doing everything we had to do in order to satisfy the customer. They never had a clue how hard we worked to get it done and we never let them see us sweat! Now we offer that same satisfaction without killing ourselves in the process and it also allows us to go after that next level of customer (the large orders with the short deadlines).

Can you quantify your ROQ purchase in terms of money or time it has saved you or gained you?

Being new and just getting into that next level, we have a hard time putting current numbers to paper, but when we look at the future goals and plans it is very easy to see where we will achieve a huge return on the investment.

We now have some dead time because we are getting things done so quick which is finally allowing us to make a big push on our marketing plans knowing we can back it up now!

If someone asked you about buying a ROQ, what advice would you give them?

We have had zero issues with the machine. The installer, Kurtis, was top notch and truly cared about our future success and if your looking for something that is simple to learn, quiet and just looks bad a$$? Then this is the machine for you!

We started in 1998 as primarily a embroidery company. We started at first just doing contract work. It wasn’t long before we changed our focus to a sales company (working directly with the end customer) with inhouse embroidery. In early 2000s we expanded to screen printing and promotional product services also. Our screen printing was being contracted out of Seattle. When the economy went bad in 2008 our contract printer went out of business. We had discussed for years bring printing in-house but at the time felt a good relationship with our contract printer. When they went out of business we discussed that this would be the best time to bring in-house. We felt at the time it was important to get a manual and auto printer. We decided on M&R® since they were the most recognizable name brand. We contacted M&R® direct for a quote and also contacted a Seattle supplier and Ryonet®. We found Ryonet® through their Digital YouTube videos. After sitting down with each distributor it was an easy decision to go with Ryonet®. Their enthusiasm and knowledge were superior to the others and knowledge was what we needed.

After the initial startup of the printing side of the business, we found the manual press collecting nothing but dust…all our printing was on the M&R® eight color Diamondback. Our business is strictly businesses, events, and associations. The M&R® Diamondback has worked great during our initial growth of our in-house printing. We setup our printing around 2010 and have seen our printing side of the business grow 300%. We decided with the growth we needed to expand to another printer. It made much more sense to get a larger machine with as many print stations as possible.

What attracted you to ROQ in the first place and what made up your mind to purchase a Green Machine?

Our first call was to Ryonet®. Upon calling we found that they had just begun distribution of the ROQ. We were completely unaware of the company or the options they offered. Ryan sent me down to Vegas to check out the machine which they had setup at the SGIA show. It was a very impressive machine. The final decision came down to the ROQ You XL fourteen color and the M&R® fourteen color Sportsman. The Sportsman is a great machine— the ROQ You is a great machine! We finally decided on the ROQ for a couple of reasons. First, was the support from Ryonet®. Customer support is “over the top!” I did not feel the same about the support we would get from M&R®. M&R® is a great company and we love the M&R® Diamondback we have but there is no local tech. One would have to be flown in at our expense. We are in Washington State and so is Ryonet®. They have committed to support the machine in case of issues and Ryonet® has always stood by their word. Second, we felt like the technology on the ROQ was more advanced. It has a longer print length stroke which was also a large selling point.

Which machine did you decide on and why?

We purchased the fourteen color, sixteen platen ROQ You XL. We felt the more print stations eliminated many of the issues we had with eight colors. We also purchased 3 RoqFlash Eco 14400 XL flashes.

When you first got your new machine, what was the first thing you fell in love with?

How solid and well built the machine is…also how quiet it is during printing. It is amazing!

How has ROQ changed your business or life?

The size of machine has allowed us to setup multiple jobs on the press at the beginning of the day. It has also allowed for faster printing on large jobs and improved quality being servo driven print strokes.

Can you quantify your ROQ purchase in terms of money or time it has saved you or gained you?

We estimate the machine we purchased saves us between $1,800 and $2,000 monthly in labor costs. Main reason is the speed of printing and also jobs that needed three or four revolver mode printing on the M&R® Diamondback now are done in one rotation which is a HUGE savings of time and labor!

If someone asked you about buying a ROQ, what advice would you give them?

The first thing you need to consider is the support you will be getting from any machine you decide to purchase. We learned that long ago with our embroidery side of the business. This is where Ryonet® really shines! They are the best in the industry! We have enjoyed our relationship with Ryonet® that was a key for choosing the ROQ. Also, the machine is great! We have noticed the benefits of the ROQ already (we have been setup under a month) with our machine. For additional machines we would not hesitate to purchase another ROQ!

Texas Print Solutions (formally Teamline) started printing as an all manual shop with M&R® presses. We decided to look into an automatic when we barely were able to print all the orders coming in this last summer. The orders were there, but the auto was not. The issue with other automatics is that the setup times were too long for our average 50-200 piece orders. We needed an automatic that could be set up and broken down quickly, easily, and in registration (as close as possible). The ROQ matched that very important qualification along with having a lot of other great features we liked the looks of

What attracted you to ROQ in the first place and what made up your mind to purchase a Green Machine?

The PRU was the main ticket to why we decided to go with the ROQ. It allows us to setup and break down in record speeds. This allows us to also do lower numbers on the auto when needed. Another thing people need to see is the honeycomb pallets. One of the reasons we can get started so quick is because of these. Since they heat up and cool down so fast it’s very easy to warm them up with one full rotation of the pallets and then we’re off. This would usually take three or four full rotations before we could print. How quiet the machine is really helps as well. Our reps and conference room are right on the other side of the wall from where our ROQ is and they have no idea when we’re running it!

Which machine did you decide on and why?

We decided to go with the YOU XL twelve station, eight color ROQ. The YOU XL gives us the larger print area we need and gives us plenty of room to work. The idea of having eight colors instead of ten was genius and we jumped right on that one! Since we wouldn’t be using at least two of the colors for cool down stations why should we even bother having them? Our setup also allows us to have a clear open station for an operator, floor manager, or anyone walking by to see that our first white or first color is printing great!

When you first got your new machine, what was the first thing you fell in love with?

The first thing we fell in love with was the wine. Once that was gone it was just the overall feel of the machine. Having it in our shop made a statement to our customers and competition, but more importantly it gave the printers a big boost in confidence and they became that much more excited to hone in the craft. What people don’t realize is that when you put an auto in a manual shop you will not only be faster, more efficient, and have better auto prints, but your manual process will speed up and the manual product will look better as well. When a manual printer looks over and sees an operator printing as fast as they do on an auto they get motivated to try and go faster and make their prints look and feel as close, if not better than the auto prints. It’s a little like game in our shop.

How has ROQ changed your business or life?

The ROQ has allowed me to go after bigger jobs and accept them as well. We’ve always had the contacts for the larger jobs, but had to always turn them down simply because there wasn’t an ability to do so. Now we don’t have to. It has also changed how we do our manual printing. Like I said an auto will help your manual printing as well and it has for us.

Can you quantify your ROQ purchase in terms of money or time it has saved you or gained you?

My labor is one-third or less when using the auto as it is with the manual—that saves me tons right there! I can’t put an exact figure on what our auto is bringing us on top of what we were getting before, but when you triple your efficiency across the shop that will be shown in numbers very shortly. I can estimate that within the first year our auto should have paid for itself and allowed us to grow in sales and operators.

If someone asked you about buying a ROQ, what advice would you give them?

If someone asked me about buying a ROQ I would say go for it. The machine is more expensive than some on the market, you can’t overlook that, but the return for what you’re getting is well worth it. There are tons of reasons to go green and I could name every one of them, but it simply comes down to asking yourself what your goal is. Our goal is always to give the best product at the most efficient pace with the least overhead as possible. If your goal is similar then go green. Lastly I would say that I would much rather print with something that’s the color of what I want to make…money!

What attracted you to ROQ in the first place and what made up your mind to purchase a Green Machine?

Ryonet® being behind it was a big factor. Without the support from Ryan, Kurtis and Ron and the rest of the support team, we wouldn’t have been interested. The ROQ technology seemed newer than any press we had seriously looked into.

Which machine did you decide on and why?

You P10M. ROQ’s 7 color 10 station. The 480v wasn’t a problem for us and was a perfect excuse to get this press.

When you first got your new machine, what was the first thing you fell in love with?

Lasers They help a lot! Almost silent operation. Touch screen is easy. Press control at every print arm. Also the pre-registration system is pretty awesome.

Can you quantify your ROQ purchase in terms of money or time it has saved you or gained you?

We are printing faster than ever but more importantly we’re printing better than ever! It’s impossible to do the same work by hand. We immediately noticed the ink deposit is much more accurate and minimal. Leaving a very soft feel even on 7 color designs. It’s also so easy to add another print stroke or modify the print order on the fly when the shirt color changes.

If someone asked you about buying a ROQ, what advice would you give them?

Really I would have to say that it’s an awesome press that has definitely improved the atmosphere of our shop. It’s so quiet and remains very accurate through print runs. If you’re buying an auto your only consideration should be which ROQ. We can’t wait to get ours a big sister or brother soon. We started with a 4 color 1 station from Ryonet® in 2005. By 2009 our hobby became a full time business. We printed multiple jobs over this last summer that required tens of thousands of manual print strokes. Needless to say my arms were getting tired. We needed to start really looking into automatics. Over the years I’ve seen and worked on different autos that I wasn’t that crazy about. When Ryan made a video of the ROQ I couldn’t believe my eyes or ears. I knew that if Ryan believed in it and was this excited then I should listen.

Bubbled Wall opened two years ago, and we were strictly a small manual shop out of the garage. Our first year was very successful, and towards the end of it we began turning down jobs as we could not keep up with the deadline demands as a small shop. It was time to get automated and grow our capabilities.

What attracted you to ROQ in the first place and what made up your mind to purchase a Green Machine?

ROQ has done everything right… From brilliant engineering that keeps the owner and end user in mind for maintaining the machines to it’s top down approach to printing = fast and quiet! It doesn’t hurt that Bubbled Wall Blue/Black goes well with ROQ Green/White!

Which machine did you decide on and why?

Bubbled wall purchased the 6 color/8 station You as well as the infradryer to start our expansion.

When you first got your new machine, what was the first thing you fell in love with?

Bubbled Wall loves the quiet run of a ROQ, can’t say enough about working in a shop that you can carry on a conversation while working as well as hear when you leave work for the day!

Can you quantify your ROQ purchase in terms of money or time it has saved you or gained you?

No, sorry… Haven’t gotten in enough apparel orders in the last year to show a positive response here… As discussed with Mark, but still love love love our ROQ!

If someone asked you about buying a ROQ, what advice would you give them?

Stop thinking, and just GO GREEN! It will be the smartest decision you will ever for your shop! Bubbled Wall was a manual shop looking to expand with an auto, and our timing couldn’t have been more perfect. Ryonet® had just solidified their deal with ROQ and Mark Berryman let me know I should take a look at some links to make my final decision… I was intrigued, and knew expanding with ROQ would be the smartest thing to do!
